The Competent Communication manual helps you to develop the basic skills that you need to prepare and present an effective speech.

The manual is organized into ten separate projects, each with its own objective. It provides a set of guidelines for you to think about as you prepare your speech in order to exercise an element of a good speech.

Another Toastmaster will evaluate speech that you give, providing positive feedback and suggestions for improvement in order to help you grow as a speaker.

Upon completion of the Competent Communication manual, you earn Competent Communicator award. Now you are ready to tackle the Advanced manuals.

 

The Competent Leadership manual is the first step on the leadership track. Each of the 10 projects in this manual focuses on a different aspect of leadership. You fulfill the objectives of each project by participating in meeting roles. Each project consists of two parts; a short, informative introduction to the skill, and an assignment that’s designed to provide you with an opportunity to practice and learn an aspect of that skill.

When you complete a Leadership role, a leadership evaluator will provide feedback to identify strengths as well as suggestions for improvement.
